Section 5(2) (k) of The National Construction Authority empowers the Authority to ’Accredit and register contractors and regulate their professional undertakings”. The Authority publishes a Register of Contractor that contains the particulars of the firm or individuals including the class of works for which the contractor is registered The Executive Director is the Registrar of Contractors, and all contractors are listed in the Contractors’ Register Thus far, the Contractors’ Register has 25,000 contractors, broken down as follows:

RENEWAL OF PRACTISING LICENSE
All contractors are required to renew their practicing licenses annually. The first renewal is due one year from the date of the issuance of your Notification of Award Letter. The renewal process is as follows:

The National Construction Authority has been enacted to, amongst others,undertake or commission research into any matter realting to the construction industry. Thus far, the Authority has conducted several surveys, such as status of government available for hire, the status of professionals in the industry and the mapping of technical training institutions in the National Construction Research Agenda Report 2014-2017, a major industry milestone. The Authority further held the First Annual Construction Research Exhibition and Conference in 2015, a meeting of the minds that brought together under one event leading industry experts towards business development in the region.

The National Construction Authority is empowered by the National Construction Authority Act no. 41 of 2011 to accredit and certify skilled construction workers and construction site supervisors. Accreditation ensures that all individuals participating in the various trades have the necessary skill to undertake the same. Training is one if major functions of the Authority. Since 2014, the Authority has managed to train 20,000 contractors in various key areas touching on the industry. The course content covered management units, such setting up a construction company,registration and participating in the procurement process. The short course also covered technical units, such as quality control,plant and equipment,drawing and specifications and quality assuarance.
The Authority commenced the Mafundi Mufti training programme mid-2015. Mafundi Mufti is a training programme for artisans, a basic introductory course on electrical,plumbing,tiling,painting and roofing works
