UPSKILLING AND ACCREDITATION OF CONSTRUCTION WORKERS IN NYAMIRA COUNTY

In a concerted effort to elevate the standards of Kenya’s construction industry, the National Construction Authority (NCA), in collaboration with the Office of the Women Representative, Nyamira County, rolled out a comprehensive upskilling and accreditation program in March 2025. This initiative, part of NCA’s 2023/2024 Continuos Professional Development (CPD) programs, aimed to enhance the professionalism, competence, and safety of local construction workers.

The five-day training program reached 1,710 workers across different constituencies in Nyamira County, equipping them with the practical knowledge and certification necessary to thrive in the construction sector. Through targeted sessions, participants gained critical insights into professional standards, safe working practices, and the value of NCA accreditation in accessing larger opportunities within the industry.

The training put emphasis on the importance of accreditation, as a leverage in empowering workers to participate in national projects such as the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and Affordable Housing initiatives. NCA accreditation not only ensures compliance with the national standards, but it also positions workers for long-term success in an increasingly competitive market.

The participants appreciated the training for its engaging delivery and relevant content, especially in areas of safety, professionalism, and the broader benefits of formal recognition within the industry. The sessions sparked a renewed sense of pride and motivation among attendees, reinforcing their role in building a safe, reliable, and skilled construction workforce.

This successful initiative in Nyamira County represents a significant milestone in NCA’s ongoing mission of transforming the construction sector through targeted capacity building and professional development programs. As similar initiatives continue to roll out across the country, NCA remains committed to fostering a future-ready construction workforce equipped to support Kenya’s infrastructure and housing goals.
