EMPOWERING CONTRACTORS NCA & KENHA KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER WORKSHOP
On February 11, 2025, the National Construction Authority (NCA), in collaboration with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), hosted a Knowledge and Skills Transfer Workshop at Sarova Panafric, Nairobi. The workshop aimed to empower local contractors by providing them with practical knowledge and expertise on large-scale infrastructure projects, with a specific focus on the Greenpark Terminus Pedestrian-Underpass Project.
This initiative is part of NCA’s commitment to skill development and knowledge transfer within the construction sector. The workshop offered a blend of technical sessions and on-site exposure, providing contractors with valuable insights into underpass construction. The training covered several key areas critical to the success of infrastructure projects:
A).Underpass Design & Construction Methodologies: Contractors were introduced to the design and construction processes specific to underpass projects, learning the technicalities from start to finish.
B).Quality Management in Infrastructure: The importance of adhering to quality standards in the construction of durable and safe infrastructure was emphasized.
C).Technology, Materials & Skills: Participants were updated on the latest technologies and materials, enhancing their ability to adapt to modern construction techniques.
D).Roles of Contractors & Consultants: The session also highlighted the crucial roles of both contractors and consultants in delivering successful infrastructure projects.
Following the presentations, contractors were taken on a site tour of the Greenpark Terminus Pedestrian-Underpass Project. This on-the-ground experience allowed them to observe real-time construction, interact with experts, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions involved in live projects.
The workshop was also part of NCA’s recruitment initiative for contractors registered under NCA Categories 4-6. Out of 61 submissions, 45 qualified contractors were selected to participate, all of whom held valid NCA licenses for the 2024/2025 financial year.
This workshop not only empowered contractors with new skills and knowledge but also reinforced NCA’s role in promoting the sustainable growth of the Kenyan construction industry. The collaboration between NCA and KeNHA marks a significant effort to improve industry standards, promote best practices, and ensure the delivery of high-quality infrastructure projects across the country.
By blending theoretical learning with practical site experience, the workshop proved invaluable for the contractors, providing them with tools to enhance their capabilities and contribute to the growth and professionalism of Kenya’s construction sector.
